The showroom
“Everything’s on display. Nothing’s in stock.”

In Always On the showroom is through a door from the workshop: a pale floor, coloured sofas, Ottoline on the sales floor, and a staff door. Today’s offer is “a sofa that is mostly corners.”
In Backrooms the showroom has no end: an office furniture showroom after closing, mono-yellow wallpaper, damp carpet, buzzing panels, price stands drifting into nonsense, and the Assistant. The Slopwright’s history puts it “behind the wall”.
Whether the two are the same shop is not on record. They do agree on what comes next: the stockroom.
