The desk in the woods

Off the trail in Meinong’s jungle, somewhere different on every walk, there is a dim clearing with a desk in it: laminate on chrome legs, a putty-coloured computer, a task chair pulled out, a few tiles of showroom carpet and a price stand, all from the showroom in Backrooms. The screen is the only light. You find it by its hum and its glow, not by the trail. It is not on a walk to find one specimen.

Sit down at it and there are two things to do. Use the computer, and the screen fills your view and becomes the desk on desktop.slopped.site. Or get up again, which the desk also offers from its side, and you are standing by the chair. Walk too long without finding it and the Assistant comes looking for you. The desk is one of the stock: display furniture where it has no business being. Unlike the specimens it exists, which in the jungle makes it the odd one out. Like everything here it is AI-made. See the secrets ledger.
