The overture. The orchestra finds its A, then a march. The curtain stays shut.
The first song in The Big Number, in D major at 100 beats a minute. It opens on a single A, which is what the walnut sounds like when somebody is tuning an orchestra inside it. A gilt plaque on the closed curtain says what is coming.
