The company

The people who run the walnut theatre, whoever is on stage.

Cue, a sprite from Always On
Sprite from Always On

Cue stage-manages, Dot sells the free tickets, Mo runs the kiosk and the usher checks them. They kept the theatre open while the Understudy had the stage and nobody came.

Whether the Understudy is still company, after taking over the stage, is not on record. Ms Quill is not company: she reviews it. The company is a faction the codex has proposed.

What they think of the others

  • ally The household: The apprentice got the Understudy off the stage, and the house came back.
  • ally The tin: The way into the walnut is a nutcracker from the lighthouse.
  • ally Staff only: Cue gives out the badges. They’re all the same door.
  • wary The draughts: Somebody blew Ms Quill’s programmes all over the theatre. Nobody has said who. (the draughts: unaware)
  • unaware The stock: Nothing in the walnut is for sale. Mo’s buttons are lucky, not stock.
  • unaware The office supplies: Nobody in the walnut has seen a stapler.
  • unaware The four coworkers: They have never been to the open plan, and it shows.
  • unaware The escaped batch: The walnut is shut. Nothing has got in.
