Props

A Stagehand with a job title: everything that is carried on or off is Props’ business, and when the show is over it all comes down from the grid, sandbags first. The trouble in Rigging is that the show is not over: the Understudy is taking an encore nobody asked for, and Props, who has stopped listening, is striking the set anyway from the top of the backstage scaffold. Like every stagehand, Props lifts a thing over the head before it comes down, which is the warning. Props is one of the company in the sense that nobody has said otherwise, and takes a bow when the scaffold goes, which the usher asks everyone not to applaud.
