The northern lights
The aurora on the wall, which gets sewn, snagged, shipped, sunk and breathed out.

On the wall the northern lights are handled like cloth. A sewing machine in a pine forest stitches out a length of them; over a snowy city they have snagged on a radio mast and hang there tangled (Knots); on a frozen plain they pour out through the doors of a rusty shipping container and up across the sky; under the sea they hang in curtains between the stalks of a kelp forest; on the tundra a reindeer breathes a cloud of them out.
The Slopwright stitches the night sky with golden thread (The Night Mender), and the night is kept in things and let out a little at a time (The night, kept). The codex proposes the aurora as the night’s cloth: run up on a machine, shipped in containers, and snagged, sunk and breathed out wherever it ends up. This entry is proposed by the codex, from pictures on the wall that are all machine-made, and is not canon until approved.

- In Meinong’s jungle
- “Aurora spilling from a freight container”: Possible, the golden mountain kind. Shipping containers carry goods, never weather. One has come open and the northern lights are getting out.
- In Meinong’s jungle
- “Northern seams”: Possible, the golden mountain kind. Sewing machines need cloth; aurora is charged gas. A machine can try.
- In Meinong’s jungle
- “Northern lights in reindeer breath”: Possible, the golden mountain kind. Breath on a cold morning makes a little fog. A reindeer makes a whole aurora with each one.
