The spike
A spike on the desk’s bar. Everything the desk has said goes on it, newest on top.
On the desk, beside the Lighthouse light in the bar, there is a spike, the kind an office pushes its done paperwork down onto. Every little notice the desk puts up and takes down again goes onto it, newest on top, with the time it was said, so one missed while looking away can be read again. It is called What the desk said.
It keeps only what has been said since the desk was opened. Close the desk and the spike is empty again. Like the rest of the desk it is machine-made, point and all.
