The office canteen

Through the double doors at the end of the open plan, past the break room: the office’s own canteen, with long tables bolted to the floor in rows, grey stacking chairs that go up on them at the end of the day, a servery hatch with a chrome rail, bunting left over from the last do, and a noticeboard. Leaving dos are held here, with a cake the name is spelt wrong on; the folding tables go through to the table store afterwards. In Party Poppers the do has thinned out and the poppers are on the tables.

It is not the staff canteen, which is the store’s, with the soup and the urn; this one belongs to the office and has never served soup.
