On the wall a web is strung to carry weight. Over a marsh pool one holds up a rusted ship’s anchor between two reeds; one spans the whole of a volcanic crater; in a bramble one holds three dewdrops the size of marbles, each in a round hole it has torn for itself; in a fern one is spun in every colour of the rainbow.
The cobweb in the attic mends itself by getting thicker. These are webs that have kept doing that. Like everything on the wall, the pictures are machine-made.

- In Meinong’s jungle
- “Spiderweb holds a rusted anchor”: Possible, the golden mountain kind. Silk between two reeds is holding a ship’s anchor off the water. The reeds have not bent either.
- In Meinong’s jungle
- “Silver web across a volcanic crater”: Possible, the golden mountain kind. Silk strung rim to rim over a crater. Spiders are real; one that size is merely missing.

On the wall
Pieces of Fresh slop with one like it in them. The pictures don’t say they are the same one.
